Analysis of Blood Lead (Pb) Levels and the Incidence of Hypertension Among Gas Station Operators

Air quality is influenced by transportation, around 70% of air pollution comes from motorized vehicles. These transportation emissions produce dangerous materials in the heavy metal group lead (Pb). Accumulative lead can be absorbed by the body through the respiratory tract, dermal contact and also the digestive tract. Increased levels of Pb in the blood can cause hypertension. Hypertension raises the risk of stroke, kidney damage and heart failure. This has an impact on gas station operators who are vulnerable to lead exposure from the vehicle refueling process. Due to lack of operator awareness in wearing PPE. This study aims to identify the effect of Pb levels in the blood on hypertension in gas station operators. This type of research is analytical observational with a cross sectional approach. The sample in this study were gas station operators who had worked for more than 2 years whose blood lead levels and blood pressure were measured in August 2023. The results of this study showed an average lead level of 2.28 mg/dL and blood pressure levels. normal is 71.4% and abnormal is 28.6%, so it can be concluded that there is no significant relationship between lead levels and blood pressure values in gas station operators.
